Our team is developing a Perioperative Highway Code to standardise signs and create a universal understanding of signage across acute clinical settings. Our team think this is important for patient safety due to rapid workforce turnover, different locations of emergency equipment, multiple acute clinical areas and to improve the response in a crisis. Our aim is to use a scientific method (a Delphi study) to create a validated set of signs for national and possibly international use. We have 14 signs with 6 variants for each being developed which include Emergency Alarm, Grab bag, Blood fridge, Emergency Drugs, Rapid infusers, Trolleys, Major trauma, Resuscitation, Anaesthetic fibreoptic scope, Paediatric anaesthetic, Adult general anaesthetic, One lung ventilation, Point of care testing, Thoracotomy, Cell salvage, Intubation pillow, Ultrasound machine. Annie Hunningher will speak on behalf of the team.
