Dr James Sherwood

Working at AstraZeneca since 1998 as part of R&D Genetics I have worked on various WGA studies in OA and Asthma, setting up of a high throughput genotyping facility utilising robotics, pharmacogenetics and more recently working as part of our Tumour Genetics Team supporting clinical trials with biomarker assay development and implementation.

In recent years I have been responsible for the design, validation and technology transfer of assays to our CRO partners in clinical trials which have a personalised healthcare strategy, prospectively selecting patients for randomisation. In order to select appropriate technologies from the plethora of different platforms available for molecular testing my time has also been spent evaluating various platforms from mass spectrometry to RT-PCR and vendors for their suitability to AstraZeneca's research needs. This has included running numerous pilot studies, QC regimes and due diligence visits to outsourcers, CRO's & companion diagnostic partners. I am now part of the Science and Validation group within the Personalised Healthcare and Biomarkers function.
