Profile of Dr Elena Gomez-Diaz

Elena Gómez-Díaz is an Evolutionary Parasitologist and Distinguished Researcher at the Institute of Parasitology and Biomedicine López-Neyra of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) in Granada (Spain). Her lab has two main areas of research applied to a major human health problem which is malaria: the study of gene regulation and adaptation in the malaria-causing parasite Plasmodium, and its mosquito vector (https://gomezdiazlab.wordpress.com). Research outputs include 49 peer-reviewed papers (>2,000 citations). She accumulates more than 6 years of international experience, including two postdoctoral stays: 3 years at the CNRS-IRD, France; and 3 years at Emory University, United States, plus more than12 months working in Africa. She has supervised 4 PhD thesis, some of which are ongoing. She is regular expert evaluator for several international and national agencies (H2020 MSCA, AEI, ANR, FCT). She has been the principal investigator for 10 research projects (total amount 1,700,000 Eur.). In parallel to her scientific activity, Elena is coordinator of the equality and diversity commission of her institute. She is also co-founder and coordinator of the community Women in Malaria (https://womeninmalaria.com).
