Profile of Dr Tim Littlewood

My research focuses on revealing and explaining the origins and evolutionary radiation of parasitic worms, particularly amongst the flatworms (Platyhelminthes). Disciplines include: systematics, phylogenetics and taxonomy, particularly through the application of molecular techniques (phylogenomics, mitogenomics). I am also interested in biodiversity discovery, parasite life cycles, and diagnostics revealed through molecular systematics. I have an interest in developing, enhancing and utilising natural history collections generally, but currently focus on their potential for disease and biomedical research. As current Head of Department I'm keen to develop our science (in all its guises as underpinned by taxonomy, evolutionary biology) and our natural history collections. - See more at: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/departments-and-staff/staff-directory/tim-littlewood.html#sthash.vqSJippO.dpuf
