Profile of Dr Janet Patterson-Kane
Qualified: Massey University, New Zealand (BVSc and PhD). Institution/Practice: Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, University of Glasgow, 464 Bearsden Road, Glasgow G61 1QH. Career: After obtaining a PhD on effect of exercise on the superficial digital flexor tendons of racehorses, I completed a residency in anatomic pathology at the University of Florida, then spent 18 months working at the Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center, University of Kentucky, during which time I obtained board-certification by examination from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Both Universities had large equine pathology caseloads. I was then employed at The Royal Veterinary College, University of London for 7 years, for most of which time I was the academic head of pathology diagnostic services. After a 2 year period as Associate Professor of Veterinary Pathology at the University of Queensland, Australia, I joined the University of Glasgow in 2009 as Professor of Veterinary Pathology, where I currently head the Research Pathology unit. Interests: Equine pathology and musculoskeletal disease including tendon injury.
