Qualified: University of Bristol. Institution/Practice: Flanders Veterinary Services, Cowrig Cottage, Greenlaw, Duns, Berwickshire TD10 6UN, Scotland.
Career: Qualified from University of Bristol with Honours in 1979. Spent 8 years in equine practice in Wendover, Newmarket, Arundel and Oxfordshire including a stud season in New Zealand. Whilst in practice studied for and gained CertEO and DESM from RCVS. Joined Glasgow University in 1987 as a Lecturer in Equine Surgery and Reproduction. Obtained a PhD by thesis on neonatal foal ophthalmology and fellowship of the RCVS by examination in 1994. Then moved to Edinburgh as a Senior Lecturer in Large animal surgery in 1994. Obtained DipECVS in 1997 by examination. Set up private equine consultancy practice based in Scottish Borders in 1998 and consults in clinics in the Scotland and northern England, and occasionally in Europe.
Locum equine surgeon Cambridge Veterinary School 2003-2004, 2007-2009, and 2011. Interests: All areas of Surgery especially orthopaedics and general soft tissue, diagnostic imaging, and ophthalmology. Organising and lecturing on CPD courses. Editor CD Equus Vetstream. Team veterinary surgeon for British Driving Teams 1994-2000, British Dressage Team 2002 and British Vaulting Team 2002. FEI veterinary delegate at Athens 2004 Olympics. Married to veterinary surgeon with 2 sons. Published over 60 referred papers and book chapters. Co-Editor Equine Clinical Medicine, Surgery and Reproduction by Manson Publishing. Other interests include keeping fit, natural history, old motorcycles and collecting oriental textiles.
