Profile of Mr John Hird
Qualifications: MA BVSc(Hons) DVA DipECVAA MRCA MRCVS.
Qualified: University of Liverpool. Institution: Hird & Partners, Shelf Equine Clinic.
Career: Qualified at Liverpool with Honours in 1970 and obtained the Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia of the RCVS in 1974. Past President of the Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists and a Foundation Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia. A Past President of the BSAVA and a member of the Royal College of Anaesthetists. He received the Melton Award from the BSAVA in 1992 for his meritorious contribution to small animal practice, and in 1999 was awarded the Francis Hogg prize by the RCVS for his work to improve the standard of anaesthesia in general practice.
Interests: Retired as senior partner from the practice in 2002, after 25 years in mixed practice. Retired as a full-time Claims Consultant for the Veterinary Defence Society in 2012, but retains a part-time role as a Claims Advisor. He also acts as an independent consultant in all aspects of veterinary anaesthesia to the pharmaceutical industry, as well as working part-time as an equine anaesthetist in the practice.
