Career: Mark graduated from The Royal Veterinary College (London) in 1996, but took some time to decide to leave (9 years doing internship, medicine residency, PhD and lecturer) before joining the new School of Veterinary Medicine and Science at the University of Nottingham. He obtained RCVS certificates in anaesthesia and equine internal medicine, is a Diplomate in Large Animal Internal Medicine of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, has a Masters in Medical Education and is Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He is currently Associate Professor in Veterinary Internal Medicine and teaches throughout the veterinary curriculum from anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory system in year 1 to equine medicine in year 5. Mark has contributed to BEVA congress through congress committees over several years, was voted on to council in September 2010 where he developed the PROTECT ME documents to promote responsible antimicrobial use. He is currently chair of the Health and Medicines Committee and President Elect of BEVA.
Interests: Mark’s clinical interests lay in equine internal medicine with a particular focus on equine cardiology and performance medicine. He has published widely in a variety of clinical textbooks including Equine Internal Medicine and Equine Clinical Pharmacology. He is co-editor of Cardiology of the Horse (2nd edition). He is also committed to excellence in veterinary education both at undergraduate and post-graduate phases. He currently oversees veterinary post-graduate taught courses at the University of Nottingham and is a member of BEVA’s Internship Awareness Programme working group.
