Dr Meredith Smith

Qualifications: MA VetMB PhD CertES DipECVS AECVDI MRCVS.
Qualified: Cambridge. Institution/Practice: Director, Image Equine.
Career: Merry completed her veterinary degree at Cambridge University in 1999, an internship in equine surgery at the New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania USA 1999–2000 and an equine surgical residency at Leahurst, University of Liverpool, UK 2000–2004. She worked as an equine surgeon in private equine practice in the UK 2004–2005, gaining her ECVS diploma in equine surgery during this time. She then moved to the Animal Health Trust and completed a PhD comparing high-field and low-field MRI in the equine distal limb between 2006 and 2009. From 2009 to 2013 Merry was then based at Newmarket Equine Hospital where she set up and ran the standing low field MRI and nuclear scintigraphy services and worked as an out of hours emergency surgeon. Merry was made a large animal associate of ECVDI in 2011. In 2014 Merry set up an independent teleradiology service and now works as a freelance diagnostic imaging and surgery consultant, collaborating closely with the AHT and the RVC as well as various private equine practices in Europe and Australia.
Interests: Equine diagnostic imaging (MRI, CT, scintigraphy, radiography); equine emergency surgery (colic, traumatology); equine oncology.
