Profile of Prof Tim Greet

Qualified: Glasgow University. Institution/Practice: Rossdales Equine Hospital. Career: Tim graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1976. Obtaining a Horserace Betting Levy Board Training Scholarship, he was awarded a Master’s Degree for work carried out in the Surgery Department of that university in 1977. He then carried out further clinical research on equine respiratory disease at the Equine Research Station of the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket. In 1982 he joined the Newmarket private equine practice of Dr Peter Rossdale, becoming a partner in 1984. Since that time he has been responsible for developing the surgery department and is now senior surgeon. His interests are in general and minimally invasive equine surgery, and his surgical caseload is divided equally between orthopaedic and soft tissue patients. He is currently senior and managing partner of Rossdales LLP. He has won the Centenary Award and the Chiron Award of the British Veterinary Association and the Richard Hartley Clinical Prize of the British Equine Veterinary Association. He gave the sixth Saki Patsaama lecture in Finland in 1987, and has lectured around the world on a variety of equine surgical topics. He has published papers on a variety of topics in veterinary journals and contributed several chapters to veterinary textbooks. He is an Honorary Professor in the Clinical Department of the Veterinary School at the University of Glasgow and an Associate Lecturer in the Clinical Department of the Veterinary School at the University of Cambridge. He was President of BEVA in 2000, and is an Honorary Member of the association; President of the British Veterinary Association in 2003/4; and President of the World Equine Veterinary Association 2009–11; Tim is currently a member of the Past Presidents Advisory Committee of WEVA. Tim is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and is a member of the Board of Regents of the College. He is a trustee and Vice-chairman of the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad (SPANA). Tim is also an honorary member of the British Veterinary Nursing Association and the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians. Interests: General and minimally invasive equine surgery.
