Qualifications: MA VetMB PhD DVA DipECVAA PGCert(LTHE) FHEA MRCVS; RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia; European Veterinary Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia.

Career: After qualifying, Alexandra spent 6 years in mixed practice in Lancashire, where she developed an interest in anaesthesia and completed the RCVS CertVA. Following a residency in anaesthesia at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, she moved to Liverpool University vet school, where she has been ever since. She gained Diplomas in veterinary anaesthesia from the RCVS and ECVAA in 2001 and became the first Head of the Anaesthesia Division in 2005. In 2006, she gained a distinction in the PGCert (LTHE). Between 2007 and 2010, she undertook a research sabbatical to study for a PhD in equine obesity which kindled her interests in equine nutrition. She resumed her senior lecturer’s role in 2010 and published a textbook in veterinary anaesthesia. Interests: All aspects of anaesthesia and perioperative patient care, particularly in terms of fluid therapy, analgesic and nutritional management of equidae; the influence of obesity on anaesthesia, post-operative recovery and outcomes; the assessment of equine obesity, its impact on health and its management; education and knowledge transfer.
