Profile of Dr Louise Southwood

Qualifications: BVSc PhD DACVS DACVECC.
Qualified: University of Sydney, Australia. Institution/Practice: University of Pennsylvania, USA.
Career: Louise graduated from University of Sydney (1993) and was a locum at Hadley Equine Hospital in Tasmania following graduation. She completed a large animal internship at Washington State University (1994/1995); surgery residency/MS at Colorado State University (CSU) (1995-1998); and PhD in fracture healing at CSU (1999-2002). During her PhD program she was a large animal emergency clinician. She then completed a large animal emergency/critical care alternate-track residency at CSU and New Bolton Center. She became Board certified in Surgery (2000) and Emergency/Critical Care (2005) and is currently a large animal emergency/critical care clinician at Penn Vet’s New Bolton Center.
Interests: Equine gastrointestinal disease; colic; colic surgery; emergency and critical care.
