Qualified: The Royal Veterinary College, University of London. Institution/Practice: University of Nottingham.
Career: Sarah graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 1994. She worked for a year in mixed practice in Suffolk, before returning to the RVC as a postgraduate student in the Equine Hospital. She obtained a PhD in equine anaesthesia, the RCVS Certificates in Veterinary Anaesthesia, Veterinary Radiology and Equine Soft Tissue Surgery, and became a lecturer in Equine Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College in 1999. Sarah was self-employed from 2002 to 2005, and became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2005. She joined the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, University of Nottingham in 2005, and was involved in much of the initial planning and delivery of a new veterinary curriculum. Her current role at Nottingham includes undergraduate teaching across Years 1–5, and supervision of postgraduate clinical and research programmes. Sarah was awarded a personal Chair in 2014, and is a Professor of Veterinary Surgery at the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science. Interests: Sarah’s main areas of interest are equine colic and orthopaedic disease. She leads the Nottingham Colic Project, which is developing best practice guidelines to improve the recognition and diagnosis of colic in the horse.
