Profile of Dr David Sutton
Qualifications: MA VetMB CertEM(IntMed) DECEIM PhD MRCVS European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine.
Qualified: University of Cambridge. Institution/Practice: Glasgow University.
Career: After graduating David spent 2 years in mixed practice with Sinclair & Wight in North Yorks, building an interest in equine medicine that led to further postgraduate training at Glasgow University. After residency, he completed a PhD in equine gastroenterology at Glasgow, in liaison with the Link Equine Colic Research Group at Texas A&M. His interest in infectious diseases developed further during his subsequent post as Senior Medicine Clinician at the University of Pretoria. He has combined both private and university referral centre equine veterinary work, having most recently spent 4 years in private equine practice in Scotland, before returning to a University Clinician post at Glasgow in 2009. He became a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine by examination in 2007.
Interests: Equine infectious diseases (trypanosomosis, piroplasmosis); working equids and methods of disease assessment and intervention; equine gastroenterology (PhD study involving validation of non-invasive tests for the quantification of intestinal transit rates) and the manifestations of intestinal disease; clinical training of the next generation.
