Profile of Abigail Scripka

Abigail Scripka is a Doctoral Candidate at ZZF Potsdam studying Tengrism in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan during Perestroika in the Soviet Union as part of the ERC-funded "Perestroika from Below" project with Juliane Fürst. Their research uses mixed method anthropological and oral history approaches and they conduct their research in English, Russian, and Kazakh. Additionally, they are an editor and translator for Novastan's English team overseeing a team of writers focused on Central Asia. Broader research interests include: decoloniality, race, gender, music, and sexuality in Central Asia along with discussions surrounding methodological approaches, ethical considerations, and subjectivity in research.
