Profile of Dr Eman Shakir
Eman is a lecturer of Biomolecular Sciences at the School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy, and Chemistry, Kingston University London. With a focus on schistosome parasites, she has dedicated her efforts to understanding their cell biology, spanning from her doctoral studies to her current academic post, over 7 years. Eman's current research is geared towards unravelling the fundamental aspects of schistosomes, including their development and the intricate dynamics between male and female worms. Employing advanced techniques such as protein kinase assays, confocal laser scanning microscopy/immunohistochemistry, stem cell proliferation tagging and phenotype assays, Eman's work aims to elucidate the underlying mechanisms through which cellular proteins regulate the form and function of schistosomes. The ultimate goal is to identify key proteins that could serve as potential targets for the development of innovative anti-schistosome drugs.
