Jaroslava Barbieri

Jaroslava is an ESRC-funded PhD candidate based at the University of Birmingham. Her doctoral project examines Russia's role in facilitating state- and nation-building processes in post-Soviet de facto states and related challenges to conflict resolution. The project is a comparative study of the 'Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic' in Moldova and the 'Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples' Republics' in Eastern Ukraine. Jaroslava is also a research consultant regularly collaborating with the Arena Programme based at John Hopkins University which gathers experts from a variety of fields to analyse the impact of disinformation and malign propaganda on modern democracy and provide innovative solutions. Jaroslava has also been a teaching fellow at the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Birmingham while completing her PhD programme.
