Sam Riley is a PhD student at the University of Birmingham. His project investigates the cultural and political significance of late and post-Soviet experimental music, and his article “A Butterfly Akin to a Bird: Imagining New Jazz in Leningrad” is forthcoming in the Journal of Sonic Studies.
