Profile of Albena Shkodrova
I am a historian and writer, author of Communist Gourmet: The Curious Story of Food in the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (CEU Press, 2021) and Rebellious Cooks and Recipe Writing in Communist Bulgaria (Bloomsbury Academic, 2021). My research has appeared in journals such as Food & History, Gastronomica, Appetite, Food, Culture & Society, European History Quarterly, and Women’s History Review.
I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute for Social Movements at Ruhr University Bochum, where I conducted a comparative study of social mobility in postwar European new towns. Currently, I am a postdoctoral researcher at KU Leuven, working with Peter Vermeersch on the Horizon 2020 project RAISE: Recognition and Acknowledgement of Injustice to Strengthen Equality, which explores Romani perspectives on restorative justice.
