Profile of Dr Richard McMullen
Dr. McMullen obtained his veterinary degree from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany in 2002 and was awarded the title of Dr. med. vet. in 2005. The following year he successfully completed his German Equine Ophthalmololgy cetification. He spent the next 6.5 years at the North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC; first as a resident (2006-2009) then as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology (2009-2012). He has remained affiliated with NCSU as an Adjunct Assistant Professor and is currently establishing the Equine Ophthalmology Service at the Pferdeklinik Muenchen-Riem located on the Thorougbred racetrack grounds in Munich, Germany. He is an active member of the International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium, and currently serves on both the Public Relation and Planning Committees. Dr. McMullen became a Diplomate of both the American and European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2012.
His areas of special interest within the field of veterinary ophthalmology include ophthalmic photography and equine ophthalmology, particularly equine vision and refraction, refractive surgery and standing ophthalmic surgery in the horse.
