Profile of Dr Alexandra Dugdale
I qualified from Cambridge in 1990 and then spent the next 6 years in mixed practice in Lancashire where I developed a passion for anaesthesia and gained the RCVS CertVA in 1993 at the same time as obtaining a private pilot's licence (who said anaesthesia was like flying!). I completed a Residency in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket before moving to Liverpool University, where I gained the RCVS and ECVAA Diplomas in Veterinary Anaesthesia in 2001 and have been a Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia since 2004. An interest in adipobiology led me to take a 3 year sabbatical to complete a PhD in Aspects of Adiposity in Ponies, during which I gained an interest in applied nutrition. My interests remain wide-ranging, including all aspects of adipobiology, physiology and pathophysiology and their impact on anaesthesia and perioperative health. In my spare time, not that there is much of it, I enjoy getting airborne and practising aerobatics when the sun is shining. For rainier days, I enjoy classical music, poetry and spending time with my Labrador on the ground!
