Arthur McFarlane

I am an Oxford and Harvard educated Historian and Foreign Policy Analyst. My DPhil explores how peasants’ avenues for resistance to Soviet rule were contingent on geopolitical and environmental factors, and how resistance led to changes in secret police tactics that consolidated Soviet power in Ukraine. My research has been generously funded by the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, the Richard Stapley Educational Trust, and the Stahl Research Fund.
