Ms Anneke Schoeman

After obtaining both her BSc and BSc (Hons) Entomology cum laude at the University of Pretoria, Ms Schoeman furthered her postgraduate studies at the North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa. In 2019, her MSc was upgraded to a PhD by the Faculty in recognition of its scientific novelty and potential impact. The resulting thesis was submitted in March 2021 and is currently under review. The project explored how the relationships between animals and their parasites change in time and space, using the well-known African Clawed Frog as model. This research been recognised for outstanding quality and impact on various platforms, including the Angela Davies-Russel Award for postgraduate student output, DST-Albertina Sisulu Doctoral Fellowship and the American Society of Parasitologists’ Outstanding Student Paper Award. Ms Schoeman has authored three peer-reviewed research articles and two conference papers. She has presented her research at seven international and four regional conferences. She has been invited to speak at two international training workshops for scientists. She maintains a blog to share her research with a non-scientist audience.
