Elena McNeilly

Elena McNeilly is Senior Lecturer and Language Director in the Department of Russian Studies at the University of Bristol. Her academic interests include applied linguistics, translation theory and practice, curriculum design, and innovative approaches to language teaching.
Elena is an award-winning academic who received the University of Bristol E-Learning Award in 2012 for her work in translation pedagogy and the Exceptional Student Support Award at the Bristol Teaching Awards in 2022. Elena developed the Russian-English component of the University’s distance-learning MA in Translation and presents on blended learning, curriculum design and employability-focused teaching. Elena's recent publications include articles in Professional Discourse and Communication and the Education & Pedagogy journals in 2021, as well as a 2025 case study on developing transferable employability skills published by the Bristol Institute for Teaching and Learning in September 2025.
