Discussion
What are the drivers of Euroscepticism in Moldova? Using a two-tiered methodological approach, combining district-level electoral data from the 2024 EU referendum with individual-level survey data, we assess the relative influence of structural, attitudinal, and partisan factors in shaping anti-EU sentiment. The results show that in the polarized Moldovan context partisanship, identity, and authoritarian orientations are the strongest predictors of Euroscepticism, while utilitarian and benchmarking factors play a limited role. The study contributes to a better understanding of the public opinion toward European integration in the EU candidate countries, in particular those from the former Soviet space.
