Discussion

Ukrainian has long carried traces of linguistic domination, particularly through Russification, which sought to suppress its distinct identity. In the current postcolonial context, processes of lexical and linguistic innovation have become vital instruments of decolonization. Our aim is to explore how neologisms, the revival of marginalized words, and the rejection of imposed forms function as strategies of cultural resistance and identity-making. Drawing on postcolonial theory and sociolinguistics, we would like to examine recent developments in media, literature, and language policy to show how innovation reinforces Ukraine’s cultural sovereignty while reshaping its global presence. The analysis argues that linguistic creativity is central to decolonization, transforming Ukrainian into both a resilient and forward-looking medium of self-expression.
