The Czech and Slovak Republics face significant political and economic challenges. This roundtable provides a range of perspectives on the causes and consequences of those challenges. Not only will contributions explain the outcomes of the two recent parliamentary elections, and how and why reactionary and progressive populist appeals have proved to be potent, but they will also look at deeper and longer-lasting developments. In particular, focus is placed on the politics of energy and Russian influence, and the extent to which the memories of communism and the shifting sands of elite composition play in the domestic politics of both the Czech and Slovak Republics. Moreover, the panel will also reflect on the challenges facing political scientists researching political developments.
