The film’s production and reception history will be analysed, by recourse to Norwegian and Russian sources, in an attempt to obtain answers to the following questions: Why was the co-production undertaken at this particular point in time? What were the co-production’s subject matter and genre, and why exactly were they chosen? Who were the directors/screenwriters/production designers/notable actors involved in the project, and why they got involved? What was the budget like and what presicely was contributed by either participating side, both financially and in terms of the division of responsibilities? Were there any substantial differences/difficulties at the production stage and afterwards, and if yes, (how) were they resolved? How did the co-production do after its release (box office income, festival prizes, reviews, audiences’ reaction, cult status, etc)? Was (in the public’s, critics’ and project participants’ opinion) the co-production a success or a failure, and why?
