The Russian invasion of Ukraine has profoundly disrupted relations at the individual, community, and state levels, while also opening opportunities for reconfigured ties, as displacement and heightened social and economic vulnerabilities in Russia foster new transnational connections and reinforce existing ones. The Tyva–Mongolia relationship illustrates how the war has prompted an increase in cross-border connections, building on pre-existing geographical, historical, and, for border communities, linguistic ties. This study explores Tyva–Mongolia relations through cross-border trade, shared cultural heritage, and religious ties, highlighting their role in shaping transnational social networks.
