Discussion
The dramatic onset of the Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has profoundly impacted languages and cultures in Central and Eastern Europe, while also prompting a global reassessment of worldviews and beliefs. The Russo-Ukrainian war has catalysed a re-evaluation of how languages and cultures adapt to new realities in Europe and the broader world.
The monograph Languages and Cultures in Times of War covers a range of issues related to linguistic and cultural transformation due to the war, with language(s) being represented in almost all studies either as an object of research or as a tool. Through specific markers of sociolinguistic and sociocultural parameters, the authors analyse a number of painful and sometimes uncomfortable questions in contemporary Ukraine, Georgia, and Russophone anti-war poetry.

During the Roundtable, we will aim discuss the following questions among other topics:
How has the full-scale war affected Ukrainian studies in Ukraine and worldwide?
In what ways can scholars influence the promotion of Ukrainian narratives on the global stage?
How do you envisage the future of Ukrainian studies in the next 5-10 years?
How do languages and cultures respond to war, and what are the factors of the risks and resilience?
How can linguistic and cultural diversity be preserved during times of war?
