Discussion

In the 1920s, Winnipeg emerged as the hub of the labor movement in Canada. This period saw the rise and distribution of a press network published by the Ukrainian Labor-Farmer Temple Association (hereafter ULFTA or Labor Temple). The research on this institution is presented in the works of Orest Martynowych, Myron Momryk, Rhonda L. Hinther, and others. Additionally, members of the socialist movement, such as Petro Kravchuk, wrote on the Labor Temple’s activities, though their accounts tended to be framed within an “ideologically correct” perspective, in line with the institution’s postulates.
My speech will examine the Ukrainian-language labor-oriented press published in Winnipeg in the 1920s-1930s (Ukrainian Labor News  and The Working Woman). It will explore what was written there about Soviet Ukraine during the interwar period. Theresearch focuses onthe main topics presented there and issues that were kept silent, particularly, information about the repression of the intelligentsia and the Holodomor of 1932-1933. Also, I will mention about the influence of the editors, and letters of people who came back to Soviet Ukraine from Canada, and information about the Canadian delegation, which visited the USSR to participate in the International Women's Conference in 1930. After returning, they gave lectures in various Canadian cities about life in the USSR.
