Discussion

The modern information war of Russia against Ukraine, the beginning of which has become associated with the beginning of the Russian military attack on Ukraine in 2013, is based, however, on the old Russian tradition of historical falsifications of varying degrees of distortion of reality.

The Russian historical narrative has several dominant (leading) plots, the systematic reproduction of which served as a sanction for the realization of Russia's imperial/neo-imperial aspirations. Among them, a special place is occupied by the plot about the unity of the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, which is embodied in narratives of various genres - scientific, political, artistic. It was this plot that became the discursive harbinger of the Russian Federation's large-scale military aggression against Ukraine, being presented in Putin's article "About the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians" six months before it began.

The proposed study aims to analyze the methods and dynamics of Russia's use of the distorted historical micronarratives as a weapon in the information war against Ukraine.
