Objective
RNAi (and more recently CRISPR) screens give rise to a wealth of
genome-scale information on gene function. Frequently, however, published
analysis is mostly focussed on a few top-scoring genes. Furthermore,
published screening data is rarely exploited by other groups. Phenovault
is a growing database and analysis suite hosted by siTOOLs Biotech, aimed
at making best use of existing screening datasets. It currently contains
more data than any existing RNAi screening repository. Importantly, by
emphasising the seed-based effect as a major contributor to phenotypes, Phenovault
provides a new and normally disregarded perspective on RNAi screens.
Beyond serving as a rich source of well-structured, open-access screening data,
Phenovault provides advanced analyses of screening datasets, using public and
proprietary hit-detection algorithms (on-target and seed-based). As such, Phenovault
will assist both screeners and target-focussed researchers to access the
treasures lurking in supplementary data and unnoticed publications.
