Prof Milada Polišenská

Milada Polišenská holds tenure at Anglo-American University in Prague (since 2003), currently at a distinguished level. She has PhD. (then CSc.) in History (1987) from Charles University in Prague and was promoted to the rank of full university professor of history in 2012. At AAU, she served as Dean and Provost (2008-2017).
Her area of specialisation is modern European history with a primary focus on diplomatic history, and history of international relations, of the Cold War, and of nation and state building and nationalism, with additional expertise in the history of emigration and travels from Central and Eastern Europe and in the history of higher education.
She researched and published on British-Czechoslovak relations, particularly on the exile movement against the backdrop of Czechoslovak-British diplomatic relations. She has also studied and published on various aspects of Central European diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union. Her most cited work is a monograph in English Czechoslovak Diplomacy and the Gulag. Deportation of Czechoslovak Citizens to the USSR and the Negotiations for their Repatriation, 1945-1953 (2015). She also focused on Czechoslovak-US diplomatic relations, published two monographs and authored shorter studies.
Her academic experience abroad includes lecturing at the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies in Malta and visiting professorship in the USA, Thailand, and Taiwan, an extensive research in the archives in Europe, in the United States and Canada, a Fulbright scholarship and a Cold War Fellowship at the Woodrow Wilson Center (Washington, DC), and a Senior Fernand Braudel Fellowship at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.
