Profile of Dr Hussein Al-Mossawi

Hussein Al-Mossawi graduated with a medical degree from Trinity College Oxford in 2006 and completed his specialist training in Rheumatology in Bristol and Oxford. He completed his DPhil studies in the translational immunology of spondyloarthritis in 2016 and was supervised by Paul Bowness and Fiona Powrie and funded by a Wellcome Trust clinical fellowship. This work focused on the role of GM-CSF in axial and peripheral spondyloarthritis and led to the recently completed phase 2 study of anti-GM-CSF in spondyloarthrtis.
He was awarded an Oxford-UCB prize fellowship in 2016 to look at the pathobiology of psoriatic arthritis using single-cell technology and has worked closely with clinical colleagues on precision medicine approaches in PsA.
He joined UCB full-time in September 2019 as director in the immunology research organisation and continues to hold honorary research and clinical positions at NDORMS/Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and is a fellow and lecturer in immunology at St Edmund Hall.
