The city of GRANADA, Andalusia. Spain.
Just a few years ago, in 2014, the Millennial of the founding of the first Kingdom of Granada, the Zirí, the predecessor of the Nasrid Kingdom, which led Granada to reach highest levels of cultural splendour, was celebrated. Since the beginning of its existence, the Kingdom of Granada has been a melting pot of cultures having collected and given the world relevant sages and writers. Throughout these thousand years, Granada has formed an attractive city structure with unique historical monuments such as the Alhambra or its unique cathedral and monastery of La Cartuja.
Today Granada is a modern, open city with a large University and several research Institutes of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Andalusian Board of recognized prestige. An example of this is the Health Sciences Park where it focuses on the area of biomedicine, teaching, research, business and care work in a model of a future in Andalusia and Spain. In this state of the art science framework it is in which the BSP Trypanosomiasis & Leishmaniasis Seminar 2020, will be celebrated on March 8-11, 2020.

The University of GRANADA
The University of Granada (UGR) is heiress of the Madrasa of the last Nasrid Kingdom and was officially founded in 1531 by Carlos I, the First of Spain. Therefore, it has almost five hundred years of history and is therefore considered as one of the historical universities of Spain. Worldwide, it is one of the fifty best universities in computer engineering and mathematics. The UGR is the first European university in the Erasmus mobility program, 5000 students per year.
Interestingly, the first Department of Parasitology in Spain was founded in the UGR. The incubation of the Department of Parasitology at the UGR began in 1911 when the internationally recognized parasitologist C. R. López-Neyra, joined the Department of Zoology. However, is 1944 the year in which the first Chair of Parasitology is created in Spain, so that Parasitology is separated from other subjects and appears independently in the curriculum. The first PhDs in Parasitology generated din the UGR constituted the nucleus from which the Department of Parasitology radiated to other Spanish Universities founding the Chairs of Parasitology in other Spanish Universities. Around this time in 1942, the National Institute of Parasitology was created where the research work of the Parasitology Department is established.

The Institute of Parasitology and Biomedicine "López-Neyra" (IPBLN).
The National Institute of Parasitology founded in Granada considered at that time as the optimal site for its location due to the prestigious scientists in parasitology and the subtropical characteristics of its climate. Its first director was Carlos Rodríguez López-Neyra and the Institute took his name in 1958. The IPBLN moved to a new building in the recently developed Technological Park of Health Sciences (PTS;
The IPBLN is included in the National Research Council of Spain (CSIC; Since the foundation, IPBLN has expanded to molecular research projects and now constitutes a modern and well-equipped institute that participates in basic and applied research.
