The ChemBio Hub project at Oxford: supporting world-class chemical biology research

Discussion

The University of Oxford performs a diverse range of world-class research in chemical biology and drug discovery. This generates a wealth of reagents, assay capability and screening data. However, there is currently no central means to capture the vast wealth of knowledge generated from the University’s chemical biology research endeavours and share this internally, let alone with external organisations.

ChemBio Hub is a web-based chemical biology discovery portal in development that will provide two principal functions. Firstly, it will provide one-stop-shop to search Oxford researchers’ interests and expertise; secondly, it will enable the controlled and secure sharing of compound, assay and screening data between current and potential collaborators. The platform will allow this data to be mined in the context of other public and private datasets. Critically, ChemBio Hub will make University of Oxford research more discoverable to the pharmaceutical and biotechnological sectors in order to enhance its impact in drug discovery.

The platform will be designed to safeguard intellectual property where necessary, whilst maximising the value of what data can be made available openly by streamlining the upload of Oxford data to ChEMBL and PubChem. Technical development will be open source in order to catalyse widespread adoption by institutions across the world.

The project is seeking to engage key drug discovery partners across academia and industry who are interested in shaping the development of ChemBio Hub to maximise the value of this ground-breaking knowledge exchange portal to their research activities.
