Radiosynthesis and Pre-clinical Imaging of [18F]Fluoroethyl choline

Positron emission tomography (PET) with [18F]fluoroethyl choline, [18F]FEC, has been reported to be useful for the detection and differential diagnosis of brain tumours, prostate cancer, lung cancer, and oesophageal cancer. High proliferation rates result in tumour cells having high choline uptake, in order to keep up with the demands of essential phospholipid biosynthesis found in cellular membranes.
Details of [18F]FEC production using the Eckert and Ziegler Modular LabĀ® by a two-step synthetic method, will be presented.
[18F]FEC screened against a range tumour types and its uptake compared to that of [18F]FDG.
